About IFL   What makes the Institute different from other bankruptcy agencies and providers? In a nutshell, the Institute is a financial education organization focused on helping its clients by presenting unbiased, neutral information about personal finance. Our education programs are proven to be effective, and we strive to build long term educational relationships with our clients while helping them meet their critical deadlines.  The Institute does not create debt repayment plans or negotiate debts for its clients, nor does it sell any financial products or systems. The Institute is funded by educational program service fees, private donations, and grants from public and private foundations. Select this link for more information about the Institute and its programs.

Pre-Filing Counseling   The Institute is approved by EOUST and the Bankruptcy Administrators to provide pre-filing counseling (sometimes called “credit counseling” or “budget counseling”) in all 94 Judicial Districts by Internet and Telephone. Please note that approval by the EOUST and Bankruptcy Administrators does not endorse or assure the quality of an agency’s services. The cost is $50 for a household (single or couple) regardless of delivery method. Select this link for more information about the Institute’s Pre-Filing Counseling services.

Post-Filing Debtor Education   The Institute is approved by EOUST and the Bankruptcy Administrators to provide post-filing personal financial management courses (sometimes called “debtor education” or “debtor ed”) in all 94 Judicial Districts by Internet, Telephone and Homestudy. Please note that approval by the EOUST and Bankruptcy Administrators does not endorse or assure the quality of an agency’s services.
